TAPE,PARCHMENT PAPER

A narrow strip of PAPER, PARCHMENT not exceeding 6 inches 9152.4 millimeters) in width.

STENCILBOARD

An item, made on a cylinder or Fourdrinier machine, of sulphate, sulphite, or mixed furnish, so formed to take oil uniformly. It is ordinarily impregnated with linseed or other oil, and is used as a substitute for metal in making stencils for marking shipping cases and the like.

PAPER,CHART,LITHOGRAPHIC

A paper made from cotton fiber pulp, chemical wood pulps or combinations of these. Good printing qualities, low expansion and contraction, good erasability, and in some cases, transparency are significant properties.

PAPER,MAP

A paper made from cotton fiber pulp or chemical wood pulps or a mixture of these. Significant properties include finish, printing quality, dimensional stability, good folding properties, and in some cases high opacity. May be treated to impart high wet strength, water repellancy, mildew resistance, luminescense, abrasion resistance, and other properties pertinent to a particular use.

CARDBOARD

A paper product in which stiffness is an important characteristic. Excludes RAILROAD BOARD.

PAPER,EMBOSSING,TOP

A paper of sufficient strength to withstand the embossing pattern without breaking the surface.

PAPER,INDEX

Various types of stiff paperboards made of chemical wood pulp and/or cotton fiber.

PAPER,POSTAL CARD

Paper for making postal cards to be used for writing or printing.

PAPER,COVER

A paper, usually made from chemical wood pulp sometimes in mixtures with cotton fiber pulps, used as outside covers for catalogs, brochures, and the like. Special characteristics include dimensional stability, uniformity of printing surface, good folding qualities, and durability.

PAPER,NEWSPRINT

A paper made largely of mechanical wood pulp with some chemical wood pulp. It is machine finished and lightly sized with little or no mineral filler.

PRESSBOARD

Various types of stiff paper products, generally made from chemical wood pulp.

BOARD,DIE STOCK,VEGETABLE FIBER

A rectangular shaped item manufactured from exploded wood fibers into an extremely heavy density board, having a specific gravity of 1.38 to 1.41, and water absorption of 1.2 percent to 0.3 percent by weight. The surfaces are smooth and edges square. It is designed for making dies, jigs, fixtures and the like.

BOOK COVER BOARD

A solid board, either single ply or laminated, made by the wet machine process from a base stock of mixed paper, kiln or plate dried.

TAG BOARD

A paperboard made from jute, chemical or mechanical wood pulp or various combinations of these. Good bending or folding qualities, high bursting and tensile strength, high tearing resistance and a high water finish suitable for writing or printing are desirable.

PAPER,LABEL

A gummed or ungummed chemical wood pulp paper in sheet form, 8 inches (203.2 mm) by 10 1/2 inches (266.7 mm) and larger, specially treated with sizing and machine or English-finished, for fabrication into label(s) by printing, perforating, and the like. See also LABEL. Excludes TAPE (as modified).

PAPER,TEMPLATE

A stencil board which is treated with wax and rosin. It has a minimum change in dimensions and a minimum change in humidity.

STENCIL PAPER,WAXED

An item designed for use with cadet unit dose pre-packaging machine.

PAPER,WATCHMAKER'S

A tissue paper used by watchmaker or repairer for holding small parts of a watch.

PAPER,BOOK

Paper suitable for printing usually made from mechanical and chemical wood pulps, cotton fiber pulp, or mixtures of these.

RAILROAD BOARD

A paper product coated on one or both sides and generally waterproof to withstand handling by damp or wet hands. It is used in general for showcards, mailing cards, tickets, checks, tags and car signs.

PAPER,CREPE,DISPLAY

A lightweight crinkled paper having a potential stretch from 50 percent to 150 percent, used for handicraft decorating and other similar purposes.

PAPER,TARGET

A paper specifically designed for use in printing paper targets to be used during practice or while testing firearms, such as pistols, rifles, or the like.

PAPERBOARD,MOUNTING

A heavy paper or paperboard made from wastepaper, overissue news, pulpwood or a combination of these. It is formed solid, or built up by pasting many thicknesses together. The surfaces may be smooth or rough, or may be lined on one or both sides with plain, decorated, or embossed facing paper in a wide range of colors and finishes. It may be used flat, folded, or made into frames with cutout openings for mounting photographs, maps, drawings, and the like.

PASTEBOARD,TARGET

A pasteboard specifically designed for mounting paper targets.

PAPER,LETTERPRESS,MULTIPLE

Paper of varying quality and size. It is designed specifically for use on a printing press or duplicating machine to produce two or more letters, forms, or the like, on a single sheet of paper. The printed product is to be cut into individual forms. Excludes PAPER (as modified).

PAPER,MANILA

An item used for face and back letterpress and offset printing of light file folders, tickets, tags, cards, and minimum quality covers for books and pads, or the like, made of chemical wood or rope.

RUBBER SHEET,CELLULAR

An elastic material of a cellular structure having smooth, crepe, or porous surface. It is produced in various thicknesses. Sheets are limited to widths greater than 6 inches (152.4 mm). It may or may not have a nonrubber backing.

TAPE,ADHESIVE,RUBBER

A natural, reclaimed, or synthetic rubber composition, sometimes mixed with a small amount of granulated cork. It may be all rubber, or the rubber may be coated or impregnated to a woven textile fabric; the adhesive side is usually backed with a holland linen fabric. It is used as a moisture, oil, flame, and grease-resistant sealer between metal joints and as a sealing and packing agent around door and window panels. Excludes: TAPE, INSULATION, ELECTRICAL; TAPE, PRESSURE SENSITIVE ADHESIVE; TAPE, SEMI-CONDUCTING, ELECTRICAL; and TAPE, SHIELDING, ELECTRICAL.

RUBBER SHEET,SOLID

An elastic material of compact structure usually having a smooth surface. It may or may not have a nonrubber backing or a metallic cloth insertion. It is produced in various thicknesses. Sheets are limited to widths greater than 6 inches (152.4 mm). For rubber sheets with one or more nonmetallic cloth inserts, see RUBBER SHEET, SOLID, CLOTH INSERT. RUBBER STOCK MOLDING,UNCURED

A formulated preparation consisting of uncured natural rubber, synthetic rubber, or a combination thereof, combined with various other ingredients as may be required, and when vulcanized, will produce a rubber stock with predesigned characteristics.

RUBBER ROUND SECTION

An item of natural and/or synthetic rubber of solid or cellular structure having a circular cross section. Items of cellular structure may be tubular or nontubular. It may have a wire or cord insert. For flexible tubular items of solid rubber structure, see TUBING NONMETALLIC. Excludes HOSE, NONMETALLIC and electric current carrying items.

RUBBER STRIP

An elastic material of compact (solid) or cellular structure having smooth, crepe or porous surface(s) and having an oval, parallelogram, square, rectangular or D-shaped cross section. It is produced in various thicknesses. Strips are limited to widths of 6 inches (152.4mm) or less. It may or may not have a nonrubber backing or a wire cloth or cord insert. PLASTIC MOLDING MATERIAL

A plastic compound in the form of powder, liquid, or the like for use in molding plastic parts and forming cellular plastic material.

WINDOW,OBSERVATION

A transparent item of a predetermined size that permits unobstructed and undistorted view of a desired area. It may include a frame, have reference markings, grid lines and may be heat strengthened and/or tinted. It is generally used where safety, security, and/or the restriction of foreign matter are required, such as the visual examination of the inside of pressurized tanks, liquid sights, controlled liquid flow, and inspection of equipment enclosed in a housing. FIBER SHEET,VULCANIZED

A sheet of dense, fibrous structured material composed of partially regenerated cellulose. The sheet is limited widths over 6 inches (152.4 mm). Excludes INSULATION SHEET, ELECTRICAL. See also PLASTIC SHEET;PLASTIC STRIP; and FIBER STRIP, VULCANIZED.

FIBER STRIP,VULCANIZED

A strip of dense, fibrous structured material composed of partially regenerated cellulose. The strip is limited to widths of 6 inches (152.4 mm) or less. See also PLASTIC STRIP; PLASTIC SHEET; and FIBER SHEET, VULCANIZED.

PLASTIC SHEET

A cellular, solid, or laminated material including film furnished in widths greater than 6 inches (152.4mm). It includes material cut to specific lengths. It may include fillers, reinforcements, or pigments. For items which have a definite rated electrical characteristics, see INSULATION SHEET, ELECTRICAL. PLASTIC STRIP

A cellular, solid or laminated plastic material including plastic film furnished in widths of 6 inches (152.4mm) or less. It includes plastic material cut to specific lengths or a continuous roll form. It may include fillers, reinforcements or pigments. PLASTIC MATERIAL,CELLULAR

A bulk material, rectangular in shape, composed of a multitude of individual small cells. It is produced in various lengths, widths, and thicknesses, and may have a finished surface or a rough (natural) surface. It is used for low temperature insulation, buoyancy, and also in the electrical, display, and novelty fields. Excludes CORE MATERIAL, CELLULAR, STRUCTURAL; CUSHIONING MATERIAL, PACKAGING; and INSERT, PACKAGING.

PLASTIC SHEET,LAMINATED,DECORATIVE

An item consisting of plastic impregnated laminations in sheet form used as a decorative and highly stain resistant covering. It is made up by pressing together plastic impregnated laminations under high pressure and heat. A visible decorative layer is provided on one side consisting of paper, linen, wood or other materials in various colors or designs. The impregnation consists of various thermosetting resins, such as phenol formaldehyde and melamine. It is designed for bonding onto table tops, cabinets, walls and the like.

PLASTIC SHEET,ADHESIVE COATED

A solid plastic material, coated with ADHESIVE on one side, and with a removable backing. The ADHESIVE is designed to be activated by a solvent. Sheets are limited to widths greater than 6 inches (152.4 mm). See also PLASTIC STRIP, ADHESIVE COATED. Excludes PLASTIC SHEET, PRESSURE SENSITIVE ADHESIVE COATED.

PLASTIC STRIP,ADHESIVE COATED

PLASTIC STRIP,PRESSURE SENSITIVE ADHESIVE COATED

A plastic material in widths of 6 inches (152.4 mm) or less. It is coated on one or more sides with an adhesive which is covered with a removable backing and requires no activation by a solvent. It is supplied in specific lengths or roll form. Excludes INSULATION TAPE, ELECTRICAL; TAPE (as modified); and PLASTIC STRIP, ADHESIVE COATED.

MOLDING,PLASTIC

A shaped piece of plastic or other composition, having a plane or curved surface, either sunk or projecting, used for ornamental or other application. Excludes items used as structural supports or stress members of a structure.

TUBING,PLASTIC,SPIRAL WRAP

A length of flat plastic tubing wound on itself in the form of a spiral. The item may be utilized in the binding of wires, cables and for harnesses or as a spiral chafe guard on a nonmetallic hose assembly and the like. The elastic properties of the plastic item, in that it expands and contracts, creates a gripping eefect on the items it encompasses. It may be color coded for identification purposes. PLASTIC SHEET,TRACING

A flexible plastic material with characteristics to accept pencil, ink, typewriter, or airbrush colors for tracing, drawing, or making reproductions. May be transparent, color-tinted on one or both sides, heat-resistant, waterproof, and erasable. May have preprinted guidelines which are nonreproducible. May be furnished in sheets cut to a specific size or in a continuous roll form. Excludes: PLASTIC SHEET.

PLASTIC STRIP,MAGNETIZED

A bulk material of flexible plastic impregnated with permanently magnetized particles, furnished in widths of 6 inches (152.4mm) or less. Magnetic poles are effective on one face only.

HARDENER,PLASTIC

PLASTIC ROUND SECTION

An item of synthetic materials of solid or cellular structure having a circular cross section. It may have a wire or cord insert. Items of cellular structure may be tubular or nontubular. SCREEN,SOLAR RADIATION PROTECTIVE

A sheet of flexible material such as plastic, polyester or the like, coated or impregnated with reflecting material on one side and with an adhesive backing on the other side. It providews a protection against ultra-violet radiations and dazzle and is used to overlay glazing, windshield and the like.

PLASTIC SHEET,THERMAL TARGET

A flat, flexible, heat generating item from which various configurations of vehicles and/or weapons are fabricated. Gunners are trained to identify and engage these simulated objects during normal and adverse conditions.

PLASTIC BAR

A rigid item of synthetic materials having a rectangular cross section. It may be hollow or solid. It is not rated for electrical characteristics.

TAPE,PLASTIC,MARKER

A flexible item in roll form 6 inches (162.4 millimeters) or less in width. It may or may not contain preprinted marking. It does not contain adhesion. It may be coated or impregnated with fluorescent,luminescent or reflecting material. It is not perforated, notched, or otherwise fdesigned to be cut to a predetermined length. FRAME,OBSERVATION WINDOW

A flat rigid item provided with holes or similar means for attaching to a container for the purpose of holding an observation window in place.

An item consisting of flexible or rigid protective heat shrink material for pipes, ropes, chains or the like that prevents corrosion or damage. Excludes INSULATION SLEEVING,ELECTRICAL; BAND,HEAT SHRINKABLE; and INSULATION SLEEVING,THERMAL.

TAPE,FLAGGING

A strip of cloth or thin flexible plastic, usually in roll form. May or may not contain preprinted inscription. Does not contain adhesion. Color may be flourescent for high visibility. Designed for use as a barricade, hazard, construction, safety precaution, and the like.

FILAMENT,ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING PRINTER

Material that is use in the fused filament fabrication process.

POLYMER POWDER

A plastic polymer whose main component is plastic and is in a powder form.

GLASS,LAMINATED

A transparent item consisting of two or more pieces of glass, with straight parallel surfaces bonded together by an interlay of transparent plastic to prevent fragmentation or splintering if broken. It may be heat strengthened and/or tinted and is generally used where safety glazing characteristics are required, such as airplane windows, explosive hazards and furniture shielding.

TUBING,GLASS

A tubular item of glass having a uniform cross section throughout its entire length. It may have reference and/or indicator markings and is generally used where the conveying, containing, or visual inspection of liquids and/or gasses are required, such as laboratories. MIRROR,GLASS

An item designed to form images by reflection by the application of metallic coating or backing such as nitrate of silver to one side of a shaped piece of polished glass. GLASS TUBING ASSORTMENT

MAT,REINFORCING,FIBROUS GLASS

An item composed of numerous glass fiber strands evenly distributed at random to form a uniformly thick material, then mechanically bound with thread, or chemically bound with a soluble plastic binder. It is used primarily as a reinforcing material in the construction or repair of plastic boats, landing craft, and similar uses.

GLASS,SAFETY,SINGLE PLATE

A transparent item consisting of prestressed pieces of glass, with straight parallel surfaces. Prestress results from heating up to fusing temperature followed by uniform quenching on both sides. Quick shrinking produces a high surface tension which only can be broken down by a heavy mechanical load. The shattered glass crumbles into spherical non-splintering pieces. It may be heat resistant or tinted and is generally used where safety characteristics such as in motor-vehicle windows are required. Excludes GLASS, LAMINATED.

FRAME,OBSERVATION WINDOW

A flat rigid item provided with holes or similar means for attaching to a container for the purpose of holding an observation window in place.

CASTABLE MIX,REFRACTORY

A refractory product containing a suitable sized dry aggregate of refractory granules and a minor amount of a hydraulically setting material, capable of effecting a cementing action on the aggregate upon subsequent addition of the water required to flow the mass into place or making shapes suitable for future use.

CLAY,REFRACTORY

An earthy or stony mineral aggregate which has as the essential constituent hydrous silicates of aluminum with or without free silica, plastic when sufficiently pulverized and wetted, rigid when subsequently dried, of suitable refractoriness for use in commercial refractory products.

MAGNESITE,REFRACTORY

The granular product obtained by burning (firing) magnesite or other substances convertible to magnesia, upon heating above 1450 degrees Celsius long enough to form dense, weather-stable granules suitable for use as a refractory for lining electric steel furnaces or in refractory products.

MORTAR,REFRACTORY

A composition of finely ground refractory materials, marketed in either a wet or dry condition, which may require tempering with water to obtain the desired consistency and which is suitable for laying refractory brick and bonding them strongly upon drying, and/or upon subsequent heating at furnace temperatures.

PLASTIC MIX,REFRACTORY

A refractory material tempered with water and suitable for ramming into place to form a monolithic furnace lining that will attain satisfactory physical properties when subjected to heat of furnace operation.

BRICK,INSULATING,HIGH TEMPERATURE

A brick having a low thermal conductivity and used as a backing for the more dense refractory brick.

A brick manufactured essentially of temperature stable mineral aggregates, formed by pressure into an arch shape. It is suitable for constructing industrial and boiler furnaces. A sheet of natural bark or a sheet of rolled or comppressed granulated cork having a cork gum, gelatin, or phenolic resin binder. It may include a fabric or other interliner. Fibrous materials of woven, braided, felted, or twisted construction of various shapes, used for feeding and delivering oil or other liquids to remote points by capillarity.

BENTONITE,TECHNICAL

A clay found in nature having the property of swelling immensely upon wetting. Usually used to increase plasticity of pottery clays, to act as a suspension agent in pottery glazes, and to act as a bonding agent in graphite crucibles, molding sands, abrasive wheels, and in electrical and chemical porcelains.

BUBBLES,GLASS,COMPOSITE REPAIR

A bulk material used to repair impacts on composite propellers. The impacts are digged with an appropriate milling cutter and then filled with resin, glass bubbles and hardener. This mixture is hardened by hot air action.
